The story started in 2014 with a short instrumental piece composed by us. We submitted this piece to a review process by asking various experts in the field of contemporary music what we could possibly improve. The resulting suggestions finally led to a second version of the original piece. In order to further improve its quality we are now inviting to compose a new masterpiece, subdivided into several sections. Each respective composition contest is based on one suggestion for improvement that was originally provided for the first version of the piece.

Every software, every car, every invention results from a long-time complex and creative process, and various experts of high qualification in their respective field of expertise make their contribution to it. Wouldn’t it be viable to create a musical masterpiece by various artists being involved in its composition? Nowadays, there are such high requirements and such a plethora of techniques for a masterpiece so that no composer will be able to handle all these on the same demanding level. Involving several persons into such a project, however, provides the chance for individual skills and strengths to complement and to enrich each other.

In addition, we wish to further enhance the quality of the second version of the original piece which had been created within the scope of masterpiece management 2014. For this purpose we drafted the frame of a not yet existing piece. This first concept is based on the suggestions that were given to us back then. Each of the single parts of the piece - which are very different in length - has its respective characteristics and challenges, and will be announced as a separate composition contest. The respective tasks of the eleven contests cover a great range, from the creation of a single tone to the composition of an instrumental section with a duration of about five minutes. By announcing each single part as a competition it is intended to discover the optimum respective approach. Each winning piece will have proven to be superior to its competing compositions by its quality and innovation strength.

It’s our goal to create the masterpiece 2016 which is to be premiered on March 22nd, 2016 within the scope of the new talents - biennale cologne. To create a true masterpiece we therefore need help by international composition experts - your help!
